VISNET II is a network of excellence that has strategic objectives revolving around the integration, research and dissemination activities of a network of excellence. Integration will be achieved both in each thematic area and across the 3 Themes defining the scope of research in VISNET II. The VISNET II consortium has set a number of specific objectives for integration:

  • Bringing together the research potential and international competence of VISNET II members with view to create a world force in the development of networked AV technologiesContent-based multimedia analysis.
  • Regular exchange of resources, technical and scientific skills and abilities, sharing of facilities with the aim to maximise the research potential and productivity.
  • Building strategic alliances between VISNET II partners aimed at strengthening the foundations of reserach collaboration resulting in further technological excellence in the area of networked multimedia systems and AV processing techniques.

The research activities within VISNET II will cover 3 major thematic areas related to networked 2D/3D AV systems and home platforms. These are:

  • Video Coding
Tools for Scalable video coding, multiple description coding, Distributed video coding and Non-normative coding.
