Curriculum Vitae

Tilman Liebchen is a PhD student and former research/teaching assistant.

He received his diploma degree in electrical engineering from Technical University of Berlin in 1998. In 1999 he joined the Telecommunications Group of Professor Peter Noll at Technical University of Berlin as a teaching assistant, with research activities in the field of lossless audio coding. From 2002 to 2006, he worked at Technical University of Berlin as a teaching and research assistant in the Communication Systems Group Communication Systems Group of Professor Thomas Sikora. From 2006 to 2010, he worked for LG Electronics, where he was responsible for the support of multimedia related standardization activities and corresponding projects. As of November 2010, Tilman Liebchen works for VDI/VDE-IT.

Since 2002, he has actively participated in the standardization activities of the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), where he particularly contributed to the MPEG-4 Audio Lossless Coding (ALS) standard. He has chaired numerous MPEG ad-hoc groups on lossless audio coding and is also the editor of the MPEG-4 ALS standard.

Tilman Liebchen was nominated for the "Inspire Award" of Deutsche Telekom in 2004. He is the author of several publications on lossless audio coding in general and MPEG-4 ALS in particular. He is also a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and of various standardization groups within DIN, IEC and DKE.
